Termite swarms will soon be making their annual appearance in the upcoming weeks. Swarms occur when established colonies produce winged male and female termites in order to reproduce. These types of termites cannot cause any structural damage; that is done by the "worker" termites of the colony. If you do not have a contract in place already, call our office and we can send a licensed technician to perform a thorough inspection at no charge.

Termite swarms are attracted to water, moisture rotted wood, heat, and lights.

Below are tips from the Louisiana Dept of Agriculture and Forestry:

• Fix any leaks in the roof, pipes and outside faucets on your home.
• Turn off outside lights at night and as many as possible inside.
• Keep your home cool.
• Repair rotting wood on fascia, soffit, and exterior wood surfaces.
• Pick up any wood lying on the ground under and around your home.
• Store firewood away from your home.
• Clean the gutters on your home and repair sections that may be damaged.
• Do not allow water to pool next to the slab or under your home. Drain the water away.
• Most importantly, use only licensed and certified pest control professionals for termite treatments.
